After lunch we rode into Biloxi and passed miles of coast line. While much of the coast was pretty we also saw miles that still showed devastation from Hurricane Katrina. A fireman a few of the others spoke to said Biloxi was hit harder by Katrina. It into in the same below sea level insidious though that made it so it wasn't as well know. As we rode in though we passed miles and miles of concrete foundations on lots where there once were houses but no longer are. It helps to make clear hpw much both Biloxi and New Orleans need help with affordable housing. To help demo how how hard the storm hit he pointed to the Hard Rock hotel across the street. It was finished just days before the tragedy and the whole building had been reduced to rubble except for the steel guitar. The building there now had been 100% rebuilt. One other set of buildings that lined that section of the coast were those associated with the Ohr-O'Keef Museum of Art. They were some pretty cool structures and I'm not sure on their part in Katrina but decided to share them as well.
Once we fully arrived at our host we split up to take care of a few things. The dinner and laundry chore groups headed out to both grocery shop and clean our clothes r while the rest of us were able to enjoy some free time. The dinner crew then came back and made some delicious taco bar fixins and mac & cheese. After dinner we had a presentation to discuss the aftermath of Katrina in New Orleans before we head there for 4 days. We watched a few videos on victims and the recovery afterwards then talked for a bit. Almost immediately after the videos we were all out cold. I just woke up and realized I hadn't posted this. It's been a few long days and I had crashed too. Off to get some rest so we can have a good memorial day ride into Nola and get some Cafe Du Monde upon arrival.
