I cannot begin to explain what it was like to be able to sleep in until just before 8:00 this morning. Our build site was the Veterans Village we are staying at, which meant we didn't need to go anywhere and cut back on travel time. At 8:00 we all congregated in the office/lobby and had a great breakfast of pastries, eggs, and bacon. We also enjoyed a good bit of fruit and donuts compliments of A B&B alumni, Leonard Klipper. He works in New York but has a friend just outside of Vegas who was getting married and was here for the wedding. When he saw on Instagram that SUS was in town he had to swing by briefly.
Following breakfast we congregated outside to go over what we'd be doing. We had expected to split into groups for repay ting the parking lot and cleaning out the laundry room unit that had experienced a fire a few weeks back, but after reconsideration they decided the laundry room was too much of a mess for us to do. As a result we split between painting lines and cleaning windows, rails, and exteriors. It was not the most thrilling of work, but we got it all done and it looks good now.
We then had a late 1:30 lunch where we were joined by Veteran's Village. He gave us a bit of information about his background and then his goal for Veterans Village. As an architect he has an interest in recycled shipping containers. He has therefore designed affordbLe housing into a out of containers where each unit could be about $25,000 total with land included. Veterans village though is very young, only 4 years old and still has a bit of way to go until they get there. There is a model unit on site though that we were able to check out.
After lunch we were done for the day so I just relaxed. I cleaned a few things up and did a pharmacy run to get some higher SPF for Death Valley. After that we I went for a little walk around our host and went to Gold and Silver Pawn Shop with Josh. It's the one from the show Pawn Stars and was cool but very touristy.
We made it back to the host for a nice big dinner with beans, rice, grilled chicken, pulled pork sandwiches, and a bit more. Josh and I had a medium sized plate eat because it was so good but didn't want to over eat. We had already planned to go to in n out for burgers and shakes. Therefore after dinner we grabbed our stuff and went down the strip to walk around. It was fun we ended up meeting up with Emily and her sister, Alex who managed to get to Vegas to visit with Emily, Carly or Philip why haven't you flown out to visit me yet. While walking around we decided that the in n out was too far out of the way so we changed destinations when we saw a Shake Shack.
Vegas was fun to walk around and see, but it was definitely very different from our typical bike and build stops. I may need to make it back for the true experience. For now though I guess I am ready to hop back on my bike for one more ride in Nevada and then our 3 days in Death Valley. Hoping a surprise cold front comes our way.
