Today we woke up at Camp Hope our host in Nola. It is located in the ninth quarter where they are still doing a lot to recover from Katrina. The building we are staying in had 11 ft of water in it.
We had a nice breakfast then headed over to work with St. Bernard's Perish. An organization started by two individuals who came down from DC after Katrina to help and chose to stay. We spent the day split into two groups of 15 working on two separate houses. My house was mudding which is basically mixing water and powder to make a paste that then fills screw holes and seams in the dry wall to make a nice clean finish.
We will be going back there again tomorrow and Friday to do more work, but it was just a great build day with a lot of mud.
After the build we headed back to Canp Hope to grab our stuff and go to a pool party for us hosted by a B&B alumni. On the way we passed by downtown and had a beautiful view of the skyline as well as a quick glimpse of the Superdome which played so much importance in housing displaced residents after the hurricane.
So the pool party was amazing. It was set up by a bike and build alumni but at an incredible coworkers house. They fed us like crazy, boozed us up, and we're just incredible hosts with an amazing house. It was an extremely relaxing night. Unfortunately it was semi far away so we had to shuttle there, but Brian was amazing and drove us all. Then on the drive home Dave shares some great poetry with us.
Also if you do one thing tonight check out the Instigram Bnbpinecone. It is AMAZING.
