Today was our fourth day in Nola and third day in building here. My group returned to the Cameron house we've been working on. Enroute to the house we stopped off at Daddy's Donuts to grab a bit of supplemental breakfast. Noah managed to snag a fairly large one for just $1.75. They were not only large but also quite good.
We then proceeded to the house where we finish up the mudding and taping of drywall boards and move on to preparing the walls for painting. At lunch we had a visit from Ms. Patricia a lady whose house was considerable damaged by Hurricane Katrina and then who also was the victim of a bad car accident that left her in a wheelchair. St. Bernard's Project though helped put her back in her house last year and she is extremely grateful. It's so nice to not only do the work, see our accomplishments, but also spend time with people who have benefited from the organizations we volunteer with.
After we finished up for the day we said good bye to the Americore members we've been working with this week, Kristina and Hieldi, before heading back to Camp Hope. We had a presentation at 5:30 on affordable housing From Jerixho Road housing initiative. Then we all put our laundry out, so the laundry crew could go get it all cleaned up before we hit the road tomorrow (having spent 4 days in non-riding clothes most of us are wearing bike clothes around while we await clean laundry). A lot of us then spent some time cleaning our bikes so they are all fresh and ready to go for our 115 miler to Baton Rouge tomorrow.
